Description: Cinnamon is a tree in which the essential oil is extracted from its twigs and leaves. Cinnamon trees are famous for their spice. The essential oil of cinnamon does not come from the aromatic, dried inner bark of the tree like most expect (it is simply too strong to use for aromatherapy purposes). In fact, the oil is extracted from its leaves. The oil has a tendency to become darker once exposed to the oxygen in the air. It originates from Sri Lanka, India, and Madagascar. Cinnamon is also used in Egypt. Egyptians used cinnamon in their embalming procedures. It is one of the most common spices in the Old Testament. During the 15th and 16th centuries cinnamon was one of the most prized spices, it was even more valuable than gold today. In today’s culture, we have found that the spice can be useful aid in trying to lower blood sugar levels.

Cinnamon oil is known to be helpful with the flu, coughs, colds, warts and viral infections. It has been recognized for centuries to assist circulatory, digestive and immune-deficiency problems. This essential oil helps eases stress on the body by increasing circulation (especially in legs and feet). Cinnamon oil can be helpful for rheumatism, arthritis and general pains. It calms an exhausted feeling of depression, hopelessness, mental exhaustion and stimulates the glandular system. This oil also reduces the appearance of cellulite, stress, tiredness, and tight muscles.

Cinnamon is great as an insect repellent and as a disinfectant.

  • Blends well with lavender, rosemary, thyme, clove and other essential oils. Cinnamon leaf oil also blends well with frankincense, ginger, and grapefruit.
  • Used in a diffuser, vaporizer or burner/aroma lamp, it can help aid bronchitis and colds as well as lift depression.
  • To relieve feelings of depression, and hopelessness, vaporize 2 drops of cinnamon, and 4 drops of sweet orange.
  • To soothe mental exhaustion and promote fresh thinking, use 1 drop of cinnamon on a tissue and inhale gently.
  • To increase circulation, mix cinnamon leaf with ginger, and lavandin and rub it into your legs and feet twice a day.
  • To aid the body through viral infections take a bath with 1 drop cinnamon leaf and 3 drops ginger once day.
  • To soothe indigestion blend cinnamon with coriander and tangerine and apply it to the abdomen using clockwise strokes.
